Old lock (1549.) evaluation

Hi collectors. Please I need evaluation of this old lock in att. which has engraved words in latin or some similar language and year 1549. Please give me advice is this lock or something else and how much could it be worth ? I supposue it is very rare and expensive since I have not found it via web nowhere and since it is almosut 500 years old. Please comment. Thank you, Franco

When did popular usage change from the Roman style lettering to what was used next? That may get you within 50 years of the manufacturing date, which, for what you are asking, is close enough.

Could this be? “NIHIL UNDE MACTO ILLATA 1549” ?? Latin translation would be “Undeclinable From Whom Glorify Occasion 1549” At least it might be close.

Since my english is not so good could You please translate that english sentence in modern english. Describe it please. What does it mean ? I have not found that kind of proverb or something like that via internet. How did you create this sentence ? Do you study latin or something ? Why year 1549 ? Anyone knows ?!

Franco, I just looked at a Latin word list (Latin word list) and took some creative liberties based on the previous translation. If you search for “Glorified Occasion 1549” many links referring to churches do appear. Best, Jim
