Ian- like oldlock says there are quite a few big Chubb round doors in Australia, Hong Kong and dotted around the Middle east and Far East. Oddly they all seemed to go abroad and I don’t know of a single one here in the UK or even Europe. I’ve heard that several of the Swiss banks have large round Chubb’s but never had or found anything to confirm.
One of the Australian members on here posted some nice pics of two of them in Australia on another thread somewhere. I’ve got a 1980s MLA Keyways with a picture of a large scale demo model of one of their huge round doors made at the Wolverhampton factory. I mentioned this demo model in another thread not long ago as I hate to think what may have happened to it during all the Gunnebo takeover etc. But you’re right as there’s never any mention of the round doors in any of the old archives I’ve come across.
The Chubb Collectanea book is superb and covers a lot of stuff but there’s a lot they had to miss out. There’s mention of a few rectangular doors but compared to the countless others they installed worldwide it’s pretty brief.
From memory there’s reference to a unique door they made using Harvey Krupp armour plate which was then spot-struck with a nickel-steel artillery shell for testing, and of the Melli/Markazzi Bank installations in Iran, their new treasury doors launched in the 1950s, but not really that much else. the big 36 inch doors pictured at the back of the book i think were still current products at the time and of course their top of the range, so served as a bit of free advertising!
