Forgive my ignorance Tom… cruciform? T shape? What do they look like? Got a pic?

Can’t you add onto my post about plaques in Miscelaneous? Paul suggested a section for plaques but no one else has posted so he hasn’t bothered yet.

Is your man with the safes a collector or dealer? Only curious (nosey) don’t say if private.

Hi guys - got a good run at the two door safe this weekend. Am feeling a little light headed with all the paint stripping fumes - but all that awful skin coloured beige is finally gone - yippee! Now just have to strip the inside and we’re ready for the new paint work.

I am in a dilemma about the pasted paper sheet on the inside of the door. Should I strip it - or leave in place even in it’s dilapidated form?

Well - I should get out and enjoy the last of the summer sun while I can. Winter is on it’s way here. Cheers Sarah

My opinion,

I’d save it even in a bad state, it’s a piece of history - which you are interested in.

You will need to fill all those little cracks because they SUCK the paint in and leave a line. Car filler if you are a Philistine like me or putty if you want to replicate the original.

Inside there is only one solution - decoraters caulk applied from a gun - they didn’t have them in 1880 bit if they had… they would!

Coo not only are you on Monday and I’m still on Sunday but you’re looking forward to winter and us to summer…pah.

Ahh Richard - you really know how to brighten a girl’s day :-) All I can say is that Autumn is my favourite time of the year - harvest, colours and lazy indian summer days. Heading for a lovely one today at least. I know Jack Frost can’t be too far away :-)

Thanks for the ‘heads up’ on filling the cracks properly - and of course I’ll be happy to use the caulk inside too. That is an excellent suggestion and as you say I’m sure that had it been invented in the 1880’s they would have seen the sense also. I see now that stripping paint is probably going to be the easiest part of the job!

There are many of them in the uk and generally they are not insurable or collected, so they sell for less than £100. Sorry.
