The next gathering of the History of Locks Research & Social Group (HoLRSG) is on the 16h June 2024

Dear all – It’s just a few days now when the group next meets in the Heritage Rooms in the Midlands. The Topic this month is those locks that first appeared in the late 18th century / early 19th century just as the Industrial Revolution was in full swing. The emergence of machine tools seemed to spawn a new breed of mechanics inspired to produce the ultimate lock. Barron was the first to patent a double acting principal and of course the well-known Bramah again double acting; there were many others.
The latest version of the programme has also been attached to this message; in addition to the monthly ‘networking’ we have added a special day when duplicates are exchanged/swapped/traded from our collections... This should be a good day for members wishing to add-to or upgrade their collections. So bring your surplus items to trade and take home something new. You can also pick-up a printed copy of the programme from the Heritage Rooms.
The format for the day is:-
10:00am - 12:30: Archive-Artefact access and research/Networking with other members. Open bookcases and interactive models can be accessed.
12:30 - 1:30: Lunch Break (bring your own sandwiches - but tea, coffee & biscuits provided all day)
1:30 - 4:00: Barron and the double Acting Principle– A circular discussion on the emergence of secure locking principles.

4:00 onwards: There is always time after a meeting for further research, socialising & networking.

We meet: in the MLA Heritage Rooms on the 3rd Sunday of the month, but with the possibility of extra special-topic or research meetings at other times.
Finding us: is easy: satnav – CV21 1TF – or Leave M6 at junction 1 to Rugby, follow A426 over 2 roundabouts taking 3rd exit at the 3rd roundabout, at next roundabout again take 3rd exit and Prospect Park is a few yards on the right, you will soon see MLA HQ building on the left. The Group: The Heritage Rooms are accessible to all - so really is for everyone, the only requirement is an interest in vintage/antique locks and/or the people involved with them.
International Members: are welcome at local meetings but for some the trip to Rugby is just too far particularly if you live outside the UK – don’t worry you are not forgotten. All members, on joining, are added to and have access to our on-line forum www.antique-locks.com and all the resources that site has to offer. It’s been running for more than twenty years and there is a lot of downloadable pdf's and jpeg’s as well as some very knowledgeable people. If you live just too far to attend local meetings get to know local members with similar interests who, I’m sure, would search the Archive for you. The forum is organised with sub categories for this purpose and we positively encourage international interaction exchange and cooperation. One final point; if you are active in the lock/security world make sure you are represented in the Heritage Rooms Archive, today’s news is tomorrow’s history, we index everything from your business card to catalogues to technical info and in all languages.
