Jcook wroteI happen to find a master lock company 44 5-S still in service at a hotel. I’m new to this collection but can tell it’s considered a common or junk lock. Common or not I can find no info on this lock. Can anyone tell me at least the years it was manufactured it’s a master lock made in us… 44 5-S thanks for any help
Billy B. Edwards Jr. is a member of this forum and recently retired from Master Lock Co. and may have specific information. I can tell you that there were three sizes of these inexpensive wrought steel Little Giant padlocks, No. 44 was 1-¼″ with 10 key changes, No. 55 was 1-½″ with 12 key changes and No. 66 was 1-¾″ with 12 key changes. I have a distributor catalog from 1956 which shows the list price of No. 44 as $3.00 per dozen, No. 55 as $4.20 per dozen and No. 66 at $5.40 per dozen. They are often sold on eBay, see image attached. 5-S may be the key change number.
