lock found treasure hunting need ID please

Hi , i am new here so please excuse my ignorance .
on a treasure hunting site i am a member of some one has posted these pictures wanting a ID , some one has IDed it as a chest type lock with a hole for a hasp on the top.
i am not comfortable with this ID because i have seen the 2 holed locks on old furniture and i do not remember them having hasps or any other type of fold down catch.
could some one please ID this lock and tell me why it has 2 holes ?

then secondly there is 2 maker marks you can barely make out on the back , TT stamped on either side. some one commented its double columns with a V in the middle for vera cruze mexico. idea on the makers mark would be great also .

I would agree it is a suitcase/small chest/container lock.

any guess as to the furniture items i have seen in the past with a key hole and a rectangular slot above it ? could it be from different locks being installed over time ?

You have half of the lock. The second part can be seen in the picture of the suitcase lock in Gerry’s post that flips up when unlocked. In the older locks it wasn’t spring loaded. To lock you would put the catch down into the slot and either it was self locking or with a turn of the key you would lock it. I am leaning to a small chest lock as that would be consistent with a jewelry box. Also it would appear that there maybe something missing from the lock that would lock the catch.

ty for the reply halflock. i can see what you are saying about the lock missing something and it being a chest or small box lock, you guys are the experts so i believe you .

but bear with me , i am still confused about the furniture i have seen in the past , i used to restore antique log cabins , and where i have no idea of history or age of locks , i have dissmantled and repaired a few . now my question was about multiple pieces of furniture i have seen over the years and now i wish i had photos of them , but several had 2 holes like this , 1 key shaped and 1 rectangular , and they were tables with lockable drawers or cabinets . i do not see where a strap or hasp like a chest or box was ever on these items of furniture, so do you think it was mistakes , seconds locks over the long life and reuse of these old items or is there a type of lock used on furniture that had a second hole like that ?

just to ease my old mind , or i will wonder about this and spend countless hours searching google and yahoo…lol

also the makers marks on the back of the lock, the double TT or even 1 person thought was a TVT.. any makers marks you heard of or is there a site i can research it ? would love to get a time era for this lock to tell the owner .
