Help Identifying Older Peruvian Lock

Bought in Peru a few decades ago. Measures 8″ long by 3.5″ high, depth without the key is about 1.25″. The key is 2 ⅜″ long. I cannot open it easily and have not wanted to put force into turning the key, which makes an audible click at the end of counterclockwise rotation.

Does anyone know something about this lock? Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

It is a simple gate lock. It could have been made in anywhere in the world no matter where it was bought. The workmanship is not too bad but still rough over all. The finer parts are the keyhole is well shaped and suggest a better craftsman even if the key and lock is simply made.

Does that dating and valuation seem accurate as well for what I have?

It is hard to say about date. That type of lock has been made for a long time and is still being made in some parts of the world today. So unless there is a makers mark or something else I wouldn’t be able to pin down more than it was made in the last few hundred years. Someone else might know more but I know the basics on this type of lock.

Value: is what you get paid at time of sale. In a nutshell that is the value. The other one sold in 2012 for what it sold for. That is not to say that your lock couldn’t sell for that but you have to sell to the right market. I don’t know the market for that type of lock.
