mortise lock

Hello!
I have a desk, probably danish from the 50s or 60s. One of the locks is missing and I am trying to find an adequate replace. One of the existing locks in the top drawer shows this sign on the forend. It looks like an elephant, maybe indicating the letter “m”.
Does anybody know the maker of this type of lock? Thanks in advance.

That elephant design is unmistakable…
Meroni is the maker of the lock, I believe they’re still in business. Possibly under a new name or corporate ownership though. They’re either Italian or Frence in origin, my guess is Italian.

I will write the company in Milano- maybe they have a mortise lock archive, so there is more to find about production date. Also, it would be interesting to know if there are still some in stock.
