P.R.R Padlock

Hi all, I would like to put this lock up for sale and have no clue what it is or its worth? I do not have a key, so the attached chain is shown in photo, I would have to hack saw it off before sale. The lock measures apx. 2″ × 2 ¾″ front is marked P.R.R, S.D. Trade XLCR, The back is marked 20LA, made by Corbin Cabinet Lock Co. Patented Nov 5. 07 also has Dec 24.07, Apr 12.07, is this a railroad lock? There are marks on front and back as if some one clamped in vise, its minor and can be seen in photo between the P and R, lock appears to be solid brass, any one have an idea as to what i should ask? thank you all for your help.

It is indeed a railroad padlock from the Pennsylvania Rail Road Signal Division. The XLCR with arrow is a CCL trademark. The chain is very likely hardened and may only be cut by a rod saw or a grinder. Many RR collectors may have the key and even send you one to save on shipping costs. I’m not a RR collector so don’t have a good idea of the value.

Thanks BBE, I did some online searching and found sililar locks in the $30/$40 range, The key would be great to get the chain off, I am checking local lock smiths, I have a few locks I would like to offer up for sale, can any one recomend a good price guide?

I recently sold a lock & key like the one shown for $40.00

Rusty, these locks are plentiful here in Pa. I have seen them for sale in the range from $30 to $60…….with or without key’s……..BTW, I checked your selection of keys,,There are a couple that I would like to own, but my pension puts the bite on how much I can spend.
