New to the forum and wanted to introduce myself. Also would like to mention, that Tilton & Mcfarland lock in the above posts was mine. I was shocked to see what it sold for myself! To be quite honest, I assumed it might sell for maybe $50.00 when I first bought it.
I knew I had something special as soon as I listed it on ebay, someone sent me a msg saying “would you consider a buy it now price of $350?”..which I almost considered. 10 minutes later received another msg from someone offering $1500! I decided right then I would let it play out and see where it ended up.
I never thought for 1 second it would end at over $3000!
One reason I joined this forum is to inquire what the significance of that lock is? I regrettably never asked the gentleman that bought it why it was worth so much to him and have no way to contact him now, so if any of you know, I would love to hear about it!
Also, another reason why I am here is because I got a call from the original person I bought the lock from..they want to sell the safe that the lock was on! I do not have a lot of info in regard to the safe, but what I do know is, it is HUGE..it’s a safe within a safe pretty much. It stand almost as tall as me (6′2). It is all original and has virtually no damage. When the gentleman originally got the safe from his father 40+ years ago(who was given it by his father before that), it took 8 guys and a fork lift to get it where it sits now, in his cellar.
The safe owner called and asked if I would be interested in taking the safe/buying it. Which brings me to where I am now… I was hooping someone here could tell me if it is worth saving this safe from the scrap heap and if so, how worth it is it? How much could it be worth and where would I look for a buyer? Any help anyone could give me, would be greatly appreciated!
thanks in advance,
Greg
