I wanted to find out some more information on this old lock I found. First, I did some quick search online, hoping to get some good information. The only thing I found regarding the lock was from this page, stating the lock is a “‘PAT DEC 2 1884’. 2 ¾” high including clevis. Brass case. Brass shackle. Mfg by: Smith & Egge Mfg. Co. Philipp Seiler Patent # 308633. This patent must be verified". Interestingly, I tried to look up more about Smith and Egge Mfg. Co. and from what I found, it appears they also made sewing machines (if I’m correct).
I’d love to learn more about this lock but importantly, how much is it worth? Unfortunately, the key for the lock couldn’t be found. Ideally though, I think selling the lock would put it in better hands with someone who can truly and absolutely enjoy its character and charm, rather than a novice such as myself.
Thank you guys for taking the time to read this and for any input!
