britboy Hi New to this forum. and just starting to acquire european locks. just bought this , not really knowing what it is. It is about 14 inches by 12 inches, huge thing. Can anyone help please? Thank you in advance
Brian Denyer Beautiful example of a surface mounted lock. Looks like a cast key of the Bridge Ward type. How long is the key? Some parts of the lock appear to be stamped and formed by dropforged press’s ? Nice piece. If you take some close ups of the bolts holding the pieces of this lock together then it may be possible to tell if it was permanently sealed?
Richard Phillips French? early 19C - late 18C? … but could be almost anywhere across the Low countries into Germany. Nice lock, made to be used.
