Passing along a question regarding an antique lock from India

I received this email from a woman who noticed on my store’s website that I sell antique locks from India. While not a customer, she is from my home state, so I’m inclined to help her with her inquiry. The problem is that this is not my specialty by any stretch, so I hoped that someone could help me out. Her text is below, although I can only take her at her word as to its accuracy. I am attaching the photos that she sent.

“I am wondering if you might be able to help me. I have an old lock that I would like to sell…but I am having difficulty in finding any information about it online. It is made by TAJ and the woman who gave it to me said she had brought it back from India….long time ago…her husband was an ambassador…anyway…I see you have an Indian lock and I was just wondering if you would be willng to take a look at mine if I sent you photos…”

While I don’t collect locks like that I can tell that it looks older and the markings are a type that much better than you find today from that part of the world. As to a value I can’t say but I will bet in a few days-week we will have an answer from one of our wide range of collectors.

I’m no expert by any means, but be aware that there are a lot of so-called India antique padlock “fakes” out there. See link:INDIA (FAKES)

I wish I could be of help, but I’ve never had any interest in the locks from India or that region so prices would be very low in my book. However I know there are collectors out there who love these locks,but finding them and getting a reasonable valuation from them might be kind of tough.🙁whew):
