Sugerglider, What kind of locks are you interested in collecting? Are you talking padlocks,safe locks or door locks? If your talking padlocks I would add Oriental spring barb locks to the list of fakes. If your collecting American padlocks,I would recommend you get a copy of “The Padlock Collector” by Franklin M.Arnall (sixth edition May 1996). It has illustrations and prices of 2800 locks (no fakes). Outside of the locks shown in the links that Dean posted and Oriental locks,I wouldn’t get to concerned as most locks aren’t copied as it gets to expensive to do so,especially given the fact that there aren’t that many collectors out there to make it profitable. I would be leary of Winchester locks unless you know for sure if it’s real,most of the others are more than likely Fantasy locks rather than copies and there is a market out there for Fantasy collectors. If your ever in doubt,post a pic on here and I’m sure one of us can help you make a determination of it’s authenticity. Now don’t let any of this discourage you from getting into the hobby, I know I’ve enjoyed it for more than 30 yrs as I’m sure you will.Mark🙁wait):
P.S. Even Bob Dix who is the president of the American Lock Collectors Assn has been burned buying fakes,it happens to all of us at least once,but usually we learn from it and pass the info on to our fellow collectors to avoid similer happenings.
