Strange Padlock- Welt Schloss (World Lock)

Hi everyone, I am in need of some info. I just bought a couple of locks and some keys off of eBay and one lock is puzzling me. Does anyone know anything about the weird double keyhole looking padlock in this auction?

I believe it is a German lock, because Welt Schloss is German for World Lock, but what I really want to know is how it works…..what type of key it takes and how it opens. I just bought it tonight so I will not have it in hand for a few days or more. I am dying to know more about this interesting little lock. Thanks in advance for any help.

If I look at this lock I think it is one key with two legs that is a slide. So you insert the key in the slots and slide it to the right. The key would have wards and/or lever cuts.

Mike , my first thought was that it was a Russian lock from the design if the body,but your right that the wording is German. I’ve never seen anything like it,so please post more about it when you get it and figure out how to open it. I like it!! (but I’m like you and like the wierd locks) Mark:8):

Okay guys, I got the lock in hand and have already opened it! It is a tricky little son of a gun but I popped it’s cherry! 🙁grin):

It is a sliding double bitted, flat steel split key lock. That would be the only way I could accurately describe it. It will take a key similar to this one:

It had to be picked in three different stages and I had to use three different picking tools at the same time to get it. It has several levers (top and bottom) that perform different functions. One lever is activated when the key is inserted (stage one); this unlocks the sliding mechanism and allows it to move to stage two. The other levers keep the moving block in place in the middle so they have to be picked to move slightly to the right and it locks up again and must be further picked. Once this level is defeated, the block moves to stage three; all the way to the right and the lock is open.

There is no spring to pop the shackle up, it is a manual closing lock with a dead locking bolt. Here are pics of the whole shebang:

Now if I can just get my hands on some of those key blanks, I can finish the job and have a working key for this little beauty! 🙁happy):

Something more I wanted to add to this is the size and weight of this mystery lock. I put an American quarter in the pics to show scale (as I normally do), I wanted to point out that this lock is bigger than I expected. I was also expecting this lock to be a thin stamped steel lock like the cheap poor man’s story locks we so commonly see but it is not. It is real heavy and the steel case is pretty thick. The body style looks like some of my old French padlocks. I would really like to know how old this little bugger is. Any info on this is appreciated. Thanks!
