Desh lock?

Looking for help to ID this lock. It is about 3 ⅝ L X 2 ⅝ W X 1 ¼ D. The back has Desh Lock and Bargular Proof on it and the front is also Desh Lock, Public Metal Industries, Aligarh, on the keyhole cover Strong Machinery registered #73461. This number is also hand stamped across the case seam along with 1957.

Any info and value of this one would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes the person that knows something will be along months later. Keep checking. Also you might search patent records. That lock screams of the British lock makers.

I dont think that it British-much more likely to be Indian

I agree,Aligarh is in India and there are a lot of Indian locks on the market. I’ve never seen one like yours however. As to value,that depends on the collector market. I’m sure there are collectors of Indian locks out there, but realize that just because it’s made of brass and has engraving on it dosn’t make it a rare or highly collectable lock. It is an example of one I would think that was made back a few years as most of the newer ones showing up on ebay are alot cheaper looking. Sorry if that dosn’t answer your questions, but I can’t put a price on it as I don’t collect Indian locks. Mark

Thanks guys, maybe could be Indian, on the back Burglar Proof is misspelled as “Barglar Proof”
