Wow, that is pretty cool. nice find. it’s just a door “latch” as there is no “locking” mechanism involved, even though you would use a key to pull the latch just the same.
Each collector has different likes, some would clean it up, others like the “old” look. At the very least, it wouldn’t hurt to wipe all the metal down with a light oil or WD40, to keep any further rust from happening. If you don’t have a key, it wouldn’t take much to get one working for that.
