It is no trouble over here to have either a tubular latch of that length (but needing wood filled in a bit, because it is not so tall a cutout in the door) or a mortice lock (where the hole in the door will need to be made taller).
The distance from the edge of the door to the handle may fractionally vary but if you wish to use a key then the heyhole will not match up because instead of being horizontally in line with the handle, it will be slightly lower. If the door is painted then this would be no problem.
