old locks-not fakes

The lock on the left is an old mailbox lock, the RFD stood for Rural Free Delivery. The lock in the middle isn’t really visible enough to tell much other than it is a 8 or 10 lever lock that uses a double bitted key. The last one may be an older Eagle lock, impossible to tell from your picture.

thanks ,,the one in the middle says “POWER LEVER ” on the face ,and the liltle lock does not have any markings , have you ever heard of power lever ,or is that not the name maybe just style ,,? thanks for reply

From around 1890 to the 1930’s a popular marketing method was to invent these sub-brand names and then register them as design patents to prevent competitors from producing them. Many producers made 6, 8 and 10 lever locks with that exact external shape and most all of them also came up with sub-brands as well as using their own brand. Power Lever is a sub-brand often seen for that type of lock. It could have been made by Eagle, Fraim, Corbin, Sargent, Safe or even Slaymaker. Searching design patents to find out which one would be a horrendous task.

thank you for the info ,,that gives me idea of date ,and the many manufactures ,,so thank you for that ,,if i could i would like to ask you how much do these type of locks fetch? i can understand if your not sure without seeing them .

Both the RFD and the Power Lever would typically sell between $10 and $15 today. No idea on the last one.

ok thanks for info ,,the lil lock i like the best the one we are not sure on ,,but i like them all ,,and they all work ,springs are good , but i dont have the correct keys . but the last lock seems to catch my eye for some reason ,,ok thanks for info ,
