Yes, that is a real key. Being made of copper would however extremely unusual due to the wear, I would say it’s more likely to be Bronze. As to use, it is for a warded mortice lock, possibly a marine application (ie from a ship). As to age, given the turning and style of the bow it would be at least pre-1900 but almost impossible to date accurately beyond that.
