Eagle lock

Hello! First off, hope I am posting in the correct forum, sorry if I am not! Recently, my family and I have been becoming more interested in many different antiques. I am not a collector, however, my dad came across an Eagle lock he found when he was a kid. I have been searching for information on it quite a while, I have found MANY Eagle locks but not this specific one. (I’m new to all of this and searching antiques but trying to learn haha) The lock says Eagle Lock Co. Terryville Conn U.S.A across the shackle, and it is a brass lock. It is locked and I do not have the key… Any information, including history, age, value ect. Would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time! 🙂

Eagle lock co. stopped being a lock company many years ago. I would suggest a book from the site below that is titled LOCKS AND LOCKMAKERS OF AMERICA (1st Edition)

as it will cover that company. The man that wrote it KNOWS his history about many American lock makers. Had the chance to sit and talk to him back a few years ago. It was some well spend hours I do have to say.

Membership & Books

We have a few padlock collectors here that should be able to set a time frame of when it was made better than I can, but if I was to guess I would say 1890-1930 by the way it is made and the key type. If you want a key made it will take a special locksmith to do that one. Not many can make keys to lever locks in the states.

That brass Eagle lever lock was likely made somewhere between 1930 and 1955 judging by the 5 rivit pattern used to assemble it. Before that many of the locks only had 3 rivits. Your lock is in fairly good shape even though you don’t have a key and at a collector show today it would sell for somewhere between $12 and $15.
