Bulls-eye/ target lock? Hope someone knows about this one...

Hello again everyone,
Today I am trying to get some info on this brass padlock that seems to have a target or a bulls-eye on the front and back of the lock. What I am looking for is who made it, where it was made, and about how much it i worth. Also any more information would be great. Also I was thinking about how similar this lock setup looked compared to a Yale so I included a picture of a Yale to show the similarities I was seeing. Why are they so similar even down to the texture and design? Just wondering.

Being I am not a collector of padlocks I can’t say who made this one. As to the other question you will find thru time that manufactures try to copy those companies that do well with a product down to make it look allot like the item that is selling well to make the customer think that there is little difference but price. We know this isn’t true but there are quite a few out there that price is the only thing that matters. In the last 9 years I have seen the lock industry “CHEAP” out everything and make anything that is quality triple in price. Heck I just got a report of a lock so cheap that the handles in a house that was 2 years old fell off in the persons hand…. not one but ALL. So in your case you might have a copy of a Yale padlock or it is just a design that they liked. Heck it might be a Yale that was made for over seas. I would guess we will find out once one of our wonderful padlock collectors come on.

Thanks for the info! That is really good to know especially since I live in a new house. I will watch for anything out of the ordinary with my locks!

Nick, It’s really hard to say who made the padlock. I can tell you it’s a warded lock which is the cheaper made and easier to pick design. Even though the case has the same texture as a Yale,the rivet locations are all together different.Eagle lock made a lock with that design,but the bale is totally different. I would say that what you have is probably a cheap foreign made copy cat lock that really has very little value,less than $5. Mark
