Information about on old lock

Could anyone tell me any information about this lock. My dad was a treasure hunter and found this lock in Western Pennsylvania. The lock actually works. I know it is difficult from a picture, however, if anyone could give me a ball park as to the value of the lock, I would appreciate it too.

The key goes w/ the lock. When the lock was found the key was in the lock.

I would seem to be a warded lock. As to the value it would be very hard to pin down without knowing a name of who made it. There is nothing marked on the back?

If there was something on the back, I can’t make it out. There is more pitting on the back which makes it very difficult to make out any lettering. If there were letters, any idea which part they would be on? Upper, lower, middle??? I could add a picture of the back, but I don’t think it would help.
