Was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about this lock? What was it used for and about how old it is? It appears to be hand-forged but not really sure of that. Measures about 3″ long without the key. Weighs about a pound… give or take a few ounces. The chain is a little over 10″ long. There are initials etched in the hook part. They are JHR. Don’t know if these are the makers or owners initials. My mom always said she thought it was a railroad lock but I can’t locate anything that looks like this one. The key is a hollow tube that when screwed in will open the lock and when unscrewed the lock is locked and can’t be opened. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
