I recently purchased an antique (?) brass padlock (see photos attached – one of each side, plus the bottom of the lock) mostly because I liked how it looked, but I’d love to learn more about it. Dimensions are about 2.5″× 1.5″ × 1″. The seller said she found it at a flea market in Kiev, of all places.
From looking online in various places like this forum, I’ve figured out it’s a scandinavian padlock, and I’ve found a few sites that have similar antique locks like here (scroll all the way down). There also happen to be a few brass “999” scandinavian locks currently selling on eBay. From what I can gather, some of these locks come with keys that were made around the 1890s by Miller Co., so I guess that makes them American rather than Eastern European? Even so, they’re still shaped a little differently than mine. I was wondering:
(a) is my lock related at all to the other locks I found, or does it instead suggest that my lock could be a fake/reproduction?
(b) if it’s not a fake, could anyone tell me what the embossed “900” (or even the “999” in the locks in the links above) refers to?
© is there a chance I could find a key for this lock?
