Unknown lock

I have a lock that was brought back from WWII and I am trying to find out some info on it, is there any body out there who might can help me?????

It may have been brought back from WWII, but it’s an American made lock (warded) that has nothing to do with Nazi Germany. The “swastika” emblem has been around for decades even used by the American indians. Value is kind of hard to set. Do you have a key? In one pic the lock appears to be locked and in the other pics it’s open. Does the lock work? Is there any spring tension in the shackle? Is the inside full of rust or rattle around when you shake it?. As far as the age,I would guess it to be made in the 30’s to 40’s. There were a lot of lock companys in that time frame that made stamped locks that are refered to as poor man story locks. If your interested in selling it drop me a email message through this site. As far as it comming from WWII I had a locksmith tell me that the lock was authentic and since I had two great uncles that were in the war I had just thought that they had brought it back. Yes the lock does work there are no rattles when you shake it. I do have a key but not the key, the locksmith showed us what the key looked like and we made one. As far as selling it can you give me ballpark value? Thank you for all the help. Jim

There is a chance that there is a makers mark somewhere on that lock It might be under the rust. Take a CLOSE look. This would help in finding a value. There may have been several makers of this type of lock even if all of us may not have seen them. By knowing the maker we might be able to find a catalog with this model of padlock. Also give it some time for other members to come on and comment if they know something. Not everyone logs in everyday like I do.

As to the value.. it is a hard thing to pin down unless you have other sales to compair it to. It is what ever the other person offers is what it is valued by that person.

Jim, I’m not saying the lock is a fake,it is an actual old lock made by one of the US companys of the time.As to your locksmith calling it authentic,authentic what? Is he saying it’s a German lock made for the Nazi’s ? I would lean more toward Slaymaker as the maker but I could be wrong.I’ve seen these locks before sell for anywhere from $20 to $100 for one in excellent condition with the origional key. Mark

I think you got me wrong , I had always thought that it was American made to and not from Germany. I will look and see if I can find any markings on it and let you know . I really do thank you for all the help.
