Hello everyone. I’m new to this forum and I need some help. I recently came into possession of a antique brass and steel 8 barrel combination lock and I’m looking for some history on this type of lock such as: How old?, Country of origin?, Is this rare or are there many of this type of lock?, Value. If anyone can help with answering these questions or if you can lead me to a website it would be greatly appreciated. I have included a pic for your reference.

Hello Toneill. Since nobody has responded to your posting, I will venture a guess. I believe your letter padlock is probably French and dates from the first half of the 19th century. Jon Millington’s Early Combination Padlocks (2010) illustrates a 5 ring French letter padlock. I noticed it used the same symbol that looks like a sun (or star) found on two of your rings. The book’s padlock opened to “ROME*.” I hope this helps at least a little. Scott
