I joined this site a few months ago and have only just got around to introducing myself due to time constraints in my busy schedule, For this I apologise.
I am a Security Specialist by trade (Locksmith, Alarm Engineer, Access Control Engineer etc…) but my passtime is Antique locks and security, I have a particular interest in Victorian Chubb Locks and history as well as the Victorian construction of locks and keys.
From time to time I will come across a lock in such a bad state that repairs and cleaning is necessary to prevent further damage occurring, However, I stand by the rule of keeping locks as true as when I acquired them, This is why I study Victorian lockmaking, I think from time to time many people forget that these locks were hand made and as so unique.
The very thought that the people who made the lock, Transported it, Handled it in the shop and bought it are all gone now, They left us something behind that proves they existed and not just another name on a headstone, I think that brings us a little closer to our ancestors and the people of the time, The word nostalgia doesn’t cover the feeling one gets when you find out something new about antique locking technology and who designed it.
I’m so pleased to find like minded people in the world, I just wish there were others that have the same passion, Then perhaps these ingenious lock designs would be more common today.
So, To all the collectors/preservationists out there, Thank You for making and keeping this site alive for other enthusiasts and beginners.
