Locksmiths Show Nottingham 03-03-2011

Hi Guys,
I went to the Locksmiths Show in Nottingham this weekend. It was great to meet Brian Morland who was most welcoming. He had some booklets for sale on Chatwoods, Hobbs and George Prices locks. If anyone has not seen these, they are well worth purchasing. Since I arrived home, I can’t stop reading them and find them difficult to put down. As well as these, there were some very nice antique locks on display. If you did not get the chance to go it is well worth contacting Brian about the booklets as these are full of historical facts and pictures to extend knowledge on these manufacturers.
I would just like to thank Brian once again for the welcome that I recieved during my visit.

At the “antique-locks” evening meal there was a good turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy it enormously.
Despite Chubb not being everybody’s specialist subject, a competition to differentiate genuine v fake antique Chubb keys had a very high success rate -half the eaters got either one or none wrong. Respect!

Thank you Tim for the complimentary words – it’s always a pleasure to meet fellow collectors/historians/archaeologists, and put a face to the name. Its also very gratifiying to know that the papers are well received. FYI – the next one that’s being worked on is Arthur Bryants Biography. For those who don’t know of Arthur he was Chubbs Engineer during WW2. He was given the rank of captain and followed the troops opening safes and vaults. It’s a similar ‘adventure’ to Charles Courtney’s “Unlocking Adventure”. In fact they knew each other and met up several times.

Tom, it was a very pleasent evening, greatly enhanced by your spontaneous competition – pity no one won the beautiful trophy on the table though!!!

Hi Brian, thanks for the comments, when Arthur Bryants Biography is in print, could you let me know please. This sounds like it could be a good read as well !!!
