You are right about the photos - they show very little.
1 - date, your lock is circa 1848.
2 - the lock is missing the drop cover off the keyhole.
3 - the rivets are rather pronounced, it may have been taken apart. Without nice clear photos it’s hard to tell.
The extra full stop you originally asked about is I would say irrelevant.
