Miller champion short shackle master levers

recieved this along with others,picked easy, no spring on shackle. replaced with nice used spring. Made keys for when all levers were in first gate and another for when all levers were in second gate. All togather i might end up with 32 keys ? I settled for just 2. Still not sure how many i can upload at one time. Lock works fine. I put the hook pin thru both sides of hook,it was just in one side .This has the 6th rivet or pin,so the patent date should be about 1902. These pancakes still keep me interested .

It’s interesting that Miller designed the locking bolt half the normal thickness to accommodate extra gate cuts on each tumbler. Naturally, this was the best approach with limited arc length. I wonder how successful you would have been in using more traditional methods to decoding this lock open rather than picking?.

Also, I forgot to mention, I tend to stay away from locks with the chain ring. I have had bad luck with broken shackle springs as well. Perhaps, the shackle spring is more exposed to the elements, and therefore, is more likely to break.

Very nice Nathan, always enjoy seeing the inside of those oldies- they’d probably make 50 or 60 modern locks with the amount of brass and bronze there!

if it was not for the broken spring i would not have taken it apart. picking wasn’t to hard. I tried 182 keys before picking. Other than trying the keys i am not sure of other methods than picking this type lock ? I listen to all info on openings,very seriously, thank you.
