HELP! Missing part of a Chatwood lock?

Hi,

I have a Chatwood safe which has a joint combination and key lock but I cannot get them working together. After removing the lock from the safe I have realised that there is a part missing. This must have been reoved to make faster acess to the safe ? I am looking for someone who has the same lock who would be kind enough to share with me the information and dimensions of the sliding steel shield which covers the keyhole, so that I can have one made?
also any info on the lock would be fully apprciated! were there many of these made? as It is the first time I have come across one of these? the lock number is 156159, It is an 8 lever pin key and the safe number is 33391.

Very rare and special. I have heard of 1 or 2 others but never seen one before.

As to the plate, would it have been attached to the door ? Are there any fixings on the back of the door plate to accommodate it ?

I assume it was fitted to quite a small safe, do you have any pictures of the safe too ?

I believe the sliding shield plate was just held in position sandwhich between the lock and the back door plate without any screw fixings. Me and my local locksmith friend Geoff Tulley have worked out that this sliding shield would have been gravity droped once the combination dial turnt back to the star. But not 100% sure yet.

from your comments it will be quite a job to find someone with the same lock for me to obtain a pattern from to make this part? but dont think it will be too much of a problem without seeing another lock but it would be nice.

you are correct, the safe I believe to be one of the smallest safes made by Chatwood. it stands just over 2 ft high. Photo attached for your interest.

Looking at the lock it does appear to be a gravity movement, how wide is the gap between the lock cap and the door plate when the lock is fitted ?

I would guess that the plate would extend a fair way up the lock with the keyhole pierced through it.

Hi Oldlock,

Just incase you have not worked this out yet. There are 7 sleve spacers which are a ¼ inch think, that slid over the lock fixing bolts to the door plate .
