Trick Lock patent?

I discovered a trick lock packed away among some stuff I am unpacking. I noticed it has stamped on the drop Patented Sept 1876. I have searched every US patent issued in that month but guess that date must be a trick also because it wasn’t there when I searched.

Does anyone know what the key looks like or how this trick lock works?

Yes, the one on the front under the drop is fake. The patent drawing helped me get it open by letting me know where to apply force as the lock was a little rusted inside. Applied a little penetrating lube and then force in the right spot and the shackle was open. All I need to do now is make a key.
