StanSteel i was given this padlock .. its made of Iron , though the iron isnt pure it has flakes of copper or bronze in it, hand made, 8×5×1cm with key, i think it could be 16th century going by the design, so hoping anyone could help with this? Phil
Scott Klemm You are very fortunate to have been given this great lock and key! I have a similar one - but without a key. Although some have dated this style of padlock as 16th - 17th century, I believe a 17th - 18th century date is more accurate. Martina Pall’s The European Padlock shows a page from an 18th century book (1750) showing the same type of padlock.
Huw Eastwood That’s a beautiful padlock, has a very elegant shape to it. Love the way the case tapers down to a cruciform shape at the bottom apex. Beautiful- what a gift and with a key as well :8):
