I thought that I would add my voice to this thread. Those of us that have been around safes and locks for quite a while know these are fake. That said, many people come to this site looking for expert advise on such items.
The above auction site, in my humble opinion, has listed “fake”, as in not old, not rare, not made by an old world locksmith, locks. These items are made to deceive the buying public.
In the past several years, more and more of this type of item has been produced and introduced into the public market. Some items (like the ones referenced in the above linked auction) are crudely made, and easily noted. However, as the market continues to purchase these items, several very well made fakes have come out. The quality of faking real antique locks and keys is getting better, and will be a real issue in the near futrure to true collctors.
If we, the buying public, refused to purchase these obvious fakes, the makers just might move onto something else more profitable. Until then…buyer beware !!!
