Old Padlock need help identifying! Military??

Hi all,

Was looking in some old stuff that I got from my family and found this lock. I have no idea what the symbol is or the manufacturer. Please advise. There is a 6 or 9 on the top.

I can’t give you a whole lot of help, but I can tell you that it’s probably not military, being that it’s a simple warded lock and more of a novelty or low security lock. Being as how it has a longer shackle, I’m thinking it might be for a bicycle lock. I would think the year of manufacture would be somewhere between 1930- 1960, but that’s just a guess. Do you have the key for the lock? Nice looking padlock none the less. Mark

I Found the symbol of the adjutant general corps. Is it that symbol on lock?

Looking at the two images side by side, there is certainly a resemblance but details of the shield differ more than I’d expect. I can see that all the smaller stars might be omitted as being problematic during casting but the lock’s shield also has cut-off “ears” which I would not expect if there were a tie-in with the AGC. A brief search did not suggest the AGC shield was re-designed at any time.

Good spotting, though.

It might be a product of the United States Lock Co. They made many warded padlocks and marked many of them US on one side and Navy or Army on the other. A marketing ploy that wasn’t sufficient to make them still be in business today.
