Yale lever tumbler and brass/bronze 8 lever

Hello Again Everyone,
Maybe I’ll have better luck with these questions.

Can anyone tell me the date of this Yale Lever Tumbler lock?
The markings on the side are ED 92.
Why does this Yale have the strange shaped shackle?
Any info on this Samson 8 lever would be appreciated.
Was it designed for a special purpose? Marine maybe?
It looks to have a brass body and a bronze shackle. All the
8 levers I have seen have been made of steel.

The Yale 800-Series cast bronze lever tumbler padlocks were made for many years and in numerous sizes:

800 - ¾″
813 - 1″
823 - 1-¼″
833 - 1-½″
843 - 1-¾″
853 - 2″
863 - 2-¼″
873 - 2-½″
894 - 3″
897 - 3-½″

Could have been made anywhere from about 1910s - 1940s. The Yale trefoil logo is said to have been in use from 1884-1909.

The Samson was made by Corbin Cabinet Co. likely in the same era as the Yales above. It is difficult to suggest a specific application for any padlock, they have and had myriad uses. Hope this helps a little.

Here’s a picture of my Yale lever tumbler collection not including the 873 model
shown in this post. These are all Trefoil locks. I’m missing models: 800, 894 & 897.

I seem to recall reading on this forum that the Trefoil was used through 1926.

Additionally, any idea about the unusual flat shackle on this Yale?
Do any of your catalogs show it?

Also, someone on this forum sent me some links to a archive site that had a large
collection of Yale catalogs downloaded to it. However, I can’t seem to find when I
put them. Do you know where I might find them?

The flat shackle was determined at least in part by the manufacturing process used, foundry casting. Every reference I have shows the same shackle design on the “standard” model lever-tumbler padlocks.

The shackle is of tough cast bronze, “coined” or squeezed into shape in a steel die under high pressure. This coining process enables the shackle so treated to withstand a bending stress three hundred percent greater than that which could be borne by a shackle of the same metal not so treated.*

The Antique Doorknob Collectors of America offer a number of Yale and other downloadable catalogs on their website, but there is a considerable change to do so:
