Schlage padlocks

Thought you guys would like to see what I have.
I recently got off these padlocks off ebay. The newer one was unassembled NOS. The 2 with the figure 8 cylinder are model 910 and the other is model 912. They all take a standard Schlage KIK cylinder but you must have the right tailpiece. The 910 comes apart very easily with a screw under the shackle. The 912 is a pain in the butt to take apart. The rectangular piece you see on the outside is a stamped metal retainer that pretty much has to be punched out from under the shackle. I have two more 910 padlock bodies with new retainers, one of the local locksmiths is going to try and find me replacement shackles so I can get them put together.

Jeff, what all can you use for cylinders in those? Would Sargent KIK cylinders with the right tail piece work?

I’m using the OEM Schlage cylinders. I’ll have to mess around with some other cylinders…has to have a screw on cap and the right tailpiece.

Sargent screw-cap cylinders used with their tubular deadbolts should fit, P/N C460-2 (old 13-3496), other versions likely won’t. For an excellent padlock that will accept a wide range of universal KiK cylinders consider the Abus Rekeyable 83 Series 2. Also accepts Abus proprietary cylinders in 14 keyways. They also make a special model, 83KnK/45 SGT S2 which will accept OEM Sargent cylinders only, comes with Sargent bible cover and driver.

I have several of those Sargent cylinders, will see if I can swap the Schlage tailpiece in.

Tailpieces were not the issue.
The Sargent 460 cylinder has a flat on the bottom which prevents it from going into the Schlage 910 body. I can probably have this milled off at work.
I also tried an Ilco branded, Sargent keyway cylinder, but it does not fit into the cylinder retainer.

To the drawing board…
