Does any one know if there are any fantasy versions of this lock that are too close to tell?
I have looked at the pages available on line here & elsewhere. I know about the obvious one with the key hole & post…& have seen some other descriptions, but am a bit confused.
It seems like the “faker’s” have gotten their technique’s refined a bit & I’m not that sharp on these locks, but would like to have one….were there different versions of this lock? Or better yet, I assume that there were, can someone post a photo of the REAL deal & point out what to look for. Also, were ALL their keys cut with the shape of the lock in the key? I am getting conflicting opinion’s from every where…
I have located one, he claims the lock is real, but so does everyone…….

Donnie, first off there were various key designs. Some had the Keen Kutter design in the bow and others had the letters KK in raised letters in the bow, both original. Usually the easiest way to tell quickly if a lock is real or a fake is to look at the front bottom edge of the lock body. On the real McCoys there is a patent and a date stamped in small letters and numbers. I’ve never seen a fake with the patent on it. Also the fake keys are usually longer with a tapered flat shaft between the bow and the bits. If you can post a front and back picture of the padlock in question, I’m pretty sure we can give you a answer to its authenticity. Here are some pictures of 2 Keen Kutter padlocks. Unfortunately I do not have the original keys. The third one is brass even though it doesn’t look like it in the picture. It’s just tarnished. I hope this helps a little.

Ok, so the rivet’s are only seen on the rear side of the lock & the trade marking’s along the front lower edge……I’ve got that so far…………anything else?
What about the shackle…some have info, others do not???
