old Yale padlock

Hey guys-
Posting for a friendwho bought an old toolbox with this Yale padlock still attached:

1) does anyone have an approximate age of the padlock?
2) the lock is stamped UR 6472, is this a blind code for the key, and if so, would someone be able to make a key to this code?

Most Yale codes are 4 digits, the 4 numbers by themselves do associate with 2 possible key combinations. The lock looks like it would take a blank most locksmiths would have on hand. Bringing the lock (and unfortunatly the chest too) to a local locksmith would first and foremost establish ownership of said lock as well enable a working key to be manually made if the code tree does not bear fruit 😉 Most Gov’t used locks had their own code series for obvious reasons so don’t be surprised if neither possibility works. At the very least it looks like a “push key” style lock, so OLDER (better) locksmiths know of a shimming trick for these.

Very nice padlock you have there. A good locksmith could possibly impression a key for that one.

I would lay a guess at 1900-1930. I had one like it from my grandfather and that is when he worked for the Navy Department. It is a push lock and yes any good locksmith should be able to fit keys to that.

I was able to locate the code and blank info, and am in the process of getting a key made for my friend 😃
