I have been unable to identify this padlock. There are no markings. The closest information I have found is that it is a barbed spring loaded lock. yes? no?

can anyone tell me anything about this piece?

It looks to be a warded gate lock. Maybe a lever lock but it is hard to know without seeing the key or looking inside the lock. Not a barb spring lock. From the look of the work maybe from India or that part of the world in the last 0-100 years as I don’t know when this type of lock was started.

I think Dean is correct, it is a gate lock and most likely warded but possibly could have a lever. Unless the lever is attached to the bolt I doubt there is one as I don’t observe a fence post attachment. As for the source, it could be India or Pakistan and another possibility is Mexico. I am inclined to think Mexico as the Indian and Pakistani locks seem generally more decorated and of a little heavier construction. Age is impossible to determine as they have been made for around 300 years and as recent as yesterday.
