T. Slaigh B&O Railroad Padlock Identification

Hi, I have a old padlock I am trying to find more info on.

It is marked:

Front:

T. SLAIGH
PATENT
Dec 18.05,
Newark NJ

Back:

B&O RR
COD

as best I can make out.

I have looked on the net quit a bit but cannot find any info on it, and I do not yet have a collector guide.
Any info anyone can tell me about this lock would be appreciated. Thanks.

It is Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Padlock They do have Museum possesses the oldest most historic and most comprehensive American railroad collections in the world. There is web site if you want to look into at http://www.borail.org/

I believe you have a Thomas Slaight padlock there. Patent date of 12/12/1865. I know mostly of Slaight from govt. and seal locks which bear his name. Those are quite collectible. Until your post I was unaware there were other locks out there with his name on them. I came across one on ebay and picked it up at a reasonable price, picture is attached and shows a clearer pat. date. Unfortunately it does not have any railroad markings like yours. The patent number for that date is 51,488.
