Yale & Towne 326 Padlock

I have two 326 Yale & Towne MFG. Co. Hardened Steel Padlock. One padlock has with large loop shackel and the other one has with LOXOL with cover leaf. As with both keyway are the same size by using the #526 flat steel or #126. I couldn’t find any #526 blank. What I did I made my own blank out of steel metal to fit the keyway and file the cut to get both of these lock to open. I pay both for $25.00 each. Not sure of what the date these two padlock was made. Also the Padlock with loop shackle as look high and low never see too many of these around.

They look to be in pretty good condition for having been made from the late 1800’s to about 1930. BTW, the clover leaf is actually a trefoil which was part of the official Yale logo for many years.

Thankk BBE. I bought these padlock at antique show here in Long Beach CA. I kind of liking the loop padlock and that was the reason bought it. I knew it was going to be a hard time finding the key blank.

There one question like to ask of that if any padlock doesn’t have patent number are there a way to find it to get information on it. I know that if lucky you can find it by name of company but not all the time.

Warded locks like that are unlikely to have a utility patent because the mechanism and design date back to antiquity, however some manufacturers in the very late 1800’s and early 1900’s discovered the Design patent and tat is the most likely way of dating a particular style other than gettong an old catalog. Design patents are a little easier to search as I don’t think there have been one million issued yet. If you can find digital versions and look arond that time period luck may find you a little quicker. Good luck.

ps. That shackle is typically called a Bull Ring shackle.
