interesting German padlock/ seeking information

Hi, I have in my collection an interesting padlock .. I haven’t found any information about it & haven’t taken a photo yet…It is rather large, about 5 ½ inches high, about 3 ½″ across, is round on the bottom (won’t sit on the table)..all metal , no brass..has original key, takes two turns to open the lock…it is in very GOOD cond..
Has stamped into the shackle in very small letter’s :BLECKMANN
SOLINGEN
Drop door & shackle spring are good..the body of the lock is round about a 3 ½ “ circle with shoulder pads front & rear…Shackle is flar bar stock about 5/16 thick & about ½” wide……..
If anyone has any any idea of what I’m trying to explain, I would appreciate any help
I will get photo’s soon….have another lock that I am trying to identify,,too

Company history, common, scarce, sought after, interesting lock, value or no idea.????
I know w/o a photo it is hard to tell…I’ll admit, I started my research with this post

Hey Don,

Those padlocks are very common here in Germany. I do have some information on the BKS that were built this way and will provide you with them as soon as I get home. Many padlocks were made in Solingen or Velbert. I do not have information on that manufacturer though. Contacting the Lock museum in Velbert may enlighten you.

Does ANYONE have a Bleckmann padlock in their collection…?
Any info. at all……………maybe this is not a common lock??
I see they made knives & other items, but can’t find anything on padlocks…….Don

The Bleckmann family apparently did a lot with metal, here’s a patent by one of them: https://www.google.de/patents/US13814

They apparently also made steel blades, and these days there are still companies named after them: http://www.sbo.at/cms/cms.php?pageName=geschichte (this one in Austria) but that particular Mr. Bleckmann was born in Solingen, Germany: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_H.A.Bleckmann

Thanks to both of you for your help & the links provided…I will see what I can find. I have been through all the research material that I have or have access to through other collectors..So far / no cigar 🙁-:
But I will keep trying.. Maybe take it to the lock show this summer… thanks again, donnie
