What is the most interesting, beautiful padlock type/company in your opinion? Do you like warded locks, pancake, military, etc? What do you collect?

And, what is your one favorite lock of all time?

There are a few but the best I have seen to date have been the counter padlocks that count each opening.

Wow Carter, That’s a hard one for me to answer. I collect story locks,commemorative locks, hardware co locks, you name it, if it’s old and beautiful, I want it. I prefer lever locks, but I also am into high security more modern locks as well. Mark

An interesting and complicated question.

I tend toward military and big padlocks. Sargent & Greenleaf 8065/8088/8077 combination padlocks (the inside of an 8065 is pretty amazing), Sargent & Greenleaf 826/831/833/951 (I haven’t found a 951 yet at a low enough price; and I think the 833 looks better than the split-case 833/951).

I would like a Rotalok but haven’t found one at a low enough price.

The large GFSP (General Field Service Padlock) version of the W-Lok is nice. Don’t take it apart unless you have a lot of patience trying to get it back together.

One of my favorites would be the Medeco Protector. Their 1970s/1980s brass padlocks were also attractive but nothing special mechanically.

One of the nice things about padlocks is they are easy to display (put another nail in the wall) compared with mortise, desk, safe/vault, and other locks.

If I had Donald Trump-like money I’d collect vault doors 😃:

Really hard to say, yes the military padlocks are really nice and the tough stuff. I have almost all of them and I also have the S&G Envo cutaway which was one of my dreams for MANY years. I enjoy collecting new high security padlocks like my Anchor Las 590-6 with Dom Diamant core.

Personally I enjoy the old Burg padlocks most. I have a very rare 99/70 from the 50s in mint condition

As you can see I am a big fan of lever padlocks. Especially the ones from 1920-1960.

I also enjoy old padlocks with double bitted keys and antique books on safes and security.
Yes, If I had more money I would probably built myself a small bunker with a vault room.

However the most interesting padlock is the Bode Panzer combination padlock.
