oldbiscuit I don’t remember if I’ve ever posted these Gougler pics on here before, but if I did,Oh Well. There has been some discussion lately on Gougler combos and I went through mine to see all the different set ups. I’ve got some that have positive stops that you you start from the stop with the combo. I’ve got others without the stop . One of them you turn right several turns to clear, then stop at zero. From zero you turn left to the first number then RLR Open. On another you turn left several turns to clear, stopping at zero. Then you continue on left to the first number, then RLRL Open. On the one I made the cutaway from, there is no number stamped on the shackle or the body. After opening it up to make the cutaway, I discovered that you can actually open this lock with two entirely different combinations going opposite directions. For a simple lock with a maze wheel inside, they do work amazingly well (no pun intended) These two locks I’ve posted are key controled locks . The one uses a regular key inserted into the back. It has wafers in the lock. The other lock uses a strange looking key that is inserted into the bottom of the lock and slid sideways to open the lock. I had theis lock open to figure out how the key would work. I purchased this lock sans key and after seeing the insides, I was able to take a old rusty blank and grind the grooves in it to make it operate. Both of these locks work with the combos and the keys.. Mark:8):
wylk Well done on the home-made flat “key.” I’ve seen a few on eBay that look like machined brass, and others that look like stamped steel to address production costs. Here is what one looks like with the outer back removed: I assume the “2” refers to the key number and that there were not very many different keys. Here’s an example of a machined brass key: And here is a lock with a stamped key:
