Smoke House Padlock Dissected

This Smokie was sold to me in pieces as a bundle.
It was interesting for me to see the inner workings so I thought I’d share.

When I got it, the shackle, dust cover and the levers curtains wouldn’t budge.
I cleaned it up a little and now its all moving again.

It didn’t come with a key.

Some of the Smoke House Padlocks are quite simple and use a screw motion type of key to lock them.

It looks like this one is a higher security type of padlock with several levers from a well known company?

I’ve never seen a screw-keyed smokie before.
Do you mean something like this?

_Brey they are similar in external appearence, but made very crudly internaly.
I had a few of theSmoke House types but used them as traders. Those with
Maple Sugar farms used thge screw type Padlocks also.
The province of Quebec has many types of handmade simple scew padlocks
for low security uses such as smoke house’s and Maple syrup
sheds. Wish I kept a few but they were great as popular traders with the tourists.
