Thank-you for your response Dean! I agree with you that this lock could be newer or older. My general feeling when I hold the lock is that it is old, as in antique old, but not sure how much value that holds. When I purchased the lock, the info. tag hanging on it stated it was from the 1700’s; however, who is to say this info. is accurate. I love your thoughts on the lock belonging on an old gate at one time. I think there is something to that, and that makes a lot of sense for me. Peterborough, where I live, has tons of farming communities. I remember the day I purchased it, quite proudly bringing it to the front desk, an old-timer, just happened to be making a purchase, and he seen the lock, and said, “now there’s an old lock”.
