Any idea of age of this Master brass lock & key?

I think this is a cool looking lock. I’m interested to know if it’s anything worth selling so I’d love to know something about it, age, etc. It has a number 4 in the black cutout under SOLID BRASS. The other side is the same. Any ideas? It’s approx 1 ½″ × 1 ¼″. Thanks a lot.

I don’t think your lock is a Master lock. I’m pretty sure it was made by Reese lock co. Someone at some time used a master key blank to have a key cut for the lock or someone found a master key that was allready cut for some other lock that fit and worked. The lock is a simple warded lock.Reese lock co was in business from 1901 -1960.Your lock was probably from the 1940’s. It’s not highly collectable (would be if it had advertising on it or company name or logo) I would give it a value of around $5-$7.50. Mark

Yes, the key was the only way I tried to identify it. I’m sure you are right about the replacement. Thanks a lot for taking the time to help me. I think it is so neat looking. Sandy
