How to open this baby

Hi,

I have got similar padlock to the one below (actually it is identical except it has different letters on its face). How to open it? Is there any shortcut or all I have to do is to check every combination?

Good Luck !!, Actually I don’t know of any code lists for that lock, so it looks like a nice wintertime, sitting in front of the fire, enjoying the peace and quiet, kind of project.🙁think):

Hmm it seems I have tried every combination but none of them worked… Any ideas anyone?

The padlocks seems to be in working condition. The shackle moves a bit when pressed, dials are rotating freely. Basically it has 2 dials and 1 kind of fixed dial. The number of combinations is quite low: 10×8×4=320

PS Of course tape measure is in centimeters - this is really small padlock

There maybe another wheel inside that one of those dials drives. Then the order of dialing would be the question I would ask someone that owns one.

Hi,
there is a trick with this German lock.
There is a brass plate at the back of the lock.
Once the 2 front wheels are set to the right combination you need to push it sideways.
Can’t remember whether right or left though.
It will release the shackle that will pop open.
By pushing sideways the plate and turning one front wheel at the same time you may be able to feel when the wheel is set to the right letter.
Then try with the other wheel.
There are not so many combos anyway.

But still I have questions:

How should I align the 2 wheels - usually there is kind of a central point at the upper side of the lock where all nubers / letters should be aligned against? Do the letters on the outer ring (I mean on this fixed part) matter at all?
Do you know age of this lock? It does not seem very old. I have heard that it may come from 1950-60s?

ca 30 sec after posting previous message I opened the lock!!! I will post pictures of it later!! Thanks again I was so frustrated after trying all combos the other night that I was thinking about breaking it or forcing it open!!

OK, so below there are pictures of the opened padlock with an arrow showing which direction to move the ring to open it once correct combination is set. The front view is blurred so that you can’t see my top secret combination 😉

Now I would like to learn a bit about the lock when it could have been made etc.
